Rumors surfacing last week about UFC light heavyweight Forrest Griffin set to face UFC newcomer Houston Alexander have been denied. The rumors were denied by Alexander's trainer and coach, Mike Doyle, according to UFCjunkie.com.
“As far as the Forrest Griffin rumor, there is no truth to that, although we would love to fight him,” says Doyle. “I am pretty sure Houston did not say that (he would be fighting Griffin) to anybody at that fight.“
It has now been confirmed that Houston Alexander will face UFC veteran Alessio "Legionarius" Sakara at UFC 75 in September.
Alexander Houston is a 35-year-old Hip Hop DJ and fights only part time. Houston proved his abilities as a fighter at UFC 71, where he completely dismantled a heavily favored Keith "The Dean of Mean" Jardine with an impressive flurry of punches. Houston won his UFC debut in an impressive manner by way of TKO in just 48 seconds of the first round.
Alessio Sakara has had five fights in the UFC and most recently won against Victor Valimaki by TKO at UFC 70: Nations Collide. Sakara began training in boxing at an early age and eventually in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, where he has earned a black belt. Alessio's UFC record to date is 2-2 and 1 no contest, and has an overall record of 15 wins and 5 losses.
With Alexander's heavy hands and Sakara's boxing background, this could make to be a classic slug fest. Although, I do believe that Alexander's power will give him the edge in stand up. Sakara's best bet would be to take this one to the ground and utilize his BJJ skills. I'm not too sure of Alexander's ground credentials but, he doesn't exactly strike me as a the submission type. Regardless, this match should be a good one!
