Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva: It's On!

The long awaited Superfight between Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell and Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva has been set for later this year. It'll happen earlier than you think...

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell (20-4 MMA, 14-3 UFC) and former longtime PRIDE Fighting Championships middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva (31-7-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) have verbally agreed to a fight that will take place at UFC 76 in September. That’s according to a source close to the Chute Box team who recently spoke to UFCjunkie.com (www.ufcjunkie.com).

According to the source, the two fighters have agreed on “numbers” and a verbal agreement has been reached. Additionally, the fight likely will be signed once the Brazilian Silva returns to the U.S., the source said.

This was supposed to be the Superfight to end all Superfights, and was even announced during a UFC event before it fell through. Of course, this was before PRIDE 33 and UFC 71, when both these men were on the top of their respective companies. Still, the similar styles of aggression displayed by both men would make for an awesome fight. They'd come out swinging and someone would go down...early. I'm talking Frye-Takayama kind of a war. We'll make sure to keep you posted!
