This might as well come from the news wire: One Night Stand, an ECW event to be held on June 3rd of this year, will definitely suck, according to me, who's not a moron. How did I arrive at this conclusion? Three things did it for me:
1. The promo (see left). The promotional poster for the event was released yesterday and it prominently features hardcore legend...Bobby Lashley. In fact, it features him so prominently that there's not room for anything else on the poster. It's just his big fat head. No Dreamer, No Sandman, No RVD, nothing...
2. The location. One Night Stand has ALWAYS been held in Hammerstein Ballroom. Its cozy size (less than 3,000) has always been the perfect spot to host an underground-style ECW event. This year's venue? Spacious 15,000 seat Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. Not South Philly. Not New York. But Jacksonville.
3. The wrestlers. The plan for this year is to have an even greater infusion of RAW and SMACKDOWN superstars, with the apparent goal being to make the event completely indistinguishable from any other WWE PPV. One Night Stand in 2005 featured just 4 WWE Brand wrestlers in official matches. In 2006, each match had one WWE Brand superstar and one ECW Extremist. In 2007, I wouldn't be surprised if there were matches featuring no ECW extremists at all.

One Night Stand officially sucks before it happens

Good points, but your third point raises a tough question. Would you rather see a hardcore match between Edge and Jeff Hardy...or between Elijah Burke and Kevin Thorn?
One could see this as a great thing for ECW, because what good matches would a ppv with mainly ECW stars have?
RVD vs. Lashley? Although he is showing signs of SLOW improvement, Lashley is horrible in the ring and on the mic, and this would provide for a second-rate title match between the man who made ECW, and the man who ruined ECW.
Sabu vs. Elijah Burke? Burke is just boring to watch.
There would have to be Sabu vs. RVD in a stretcher match, Dreamer and Sandman vs. Terry Funk and Mick Foley in a tlc match, throw in a title match like CM Punk vs. Lashley and you have 3 interesting matches, however to fill up the card you would also have to add matches like Kevin Thorn vs. Snitsky, or Elijah Burke vs. Marcus Cor Von, or how about the ever-exciting Matt Striker vs. Mike Knox?
I think that One Night Stand needs an all-ECW match or two, but realistically there is no way to have a successful ppv with the crack squad of savvy motivated personel that they have down at ECW alone.
I think that having multiple brands at One Night Stand could be a great move if they utilize the Raw and Smackdown superstars well enough.
If Edge, the Hardys, Mick Foley, and Terry Funk are going to wrestle at One Night Stand...then I might consider buying the ppv (which I don't usually do). But if One Night Stand is going to be a bunch of crap-matches that I can watch any tuesday night at 10, then they lost my 40 bucks.
It all depends on how you look at things. You can see ECW invaded by Raw and Smackdown superstars, or you can fall asleep to another "Elijah Experience" to win an exciting non-extreme rules match.
Excellent points all around. You're absolutely right: if they send Edge and the Hardys over for this PPV, it should be sweet. But what are they likely to do? I think you can trade in that stretcher match dream for lots of Elijah Burke and Matt Striker. I'm nervous because I feel that the writers just don't know what to do with guys like Dreamer and Sandman. I mean, look at the WM23 match! I don't think a weapon was used, let alone the trademark Kendo stick. That's why I'm nervous about bringing in Raw/Smackdown "talent." I feel that, if used incorrectly, it could further water down the already decrepit state of ECW wrestling. Something I think you're right about that I didn't think through all the way is the fact that ECW simply doesn't have enough guys to fill a PPV. They'll need to do something with the other brands...that something remains to be seen.
