With the recent string of fighters testing positive for a large variety of drugs, it came as no surprise to me when I heard news of Johnnie Morton testing positive for anabolic steroids, according to the California State Athletic Commission. Johnnie Morton made his MMA debut on June 2 at K-1’s Dynamite!! USA event and was brutally knocked out by opponent, Bernard Ackah, in just 38 seconds of the first round.
Morton underwent a pre-fight urinalysis and results came back positive with a "very elevated T/E ratio,” in layman terms, very high testosterone. His T/E ratio was 83.9, opposed to 6, the normal industry standard for an athlete. The former NFL wide receiver refused to take a post-fight drug test and placed on indefinite suspension and as a result has had his purse withheld. CSAC Executive Director Armando Garcia has given Morton ten days to explain his reasons for refusing to take the post-fight test. Morton faces a possible revocation of his fighting license and a maximum fine of $2,500.
Morton now joins fighters such as Nick Diaz (marijuana), Melvin Guillard (cocaine), Stephan Bonnar (anabolic steroids), Kimo Leopoldo (anabolic steroids), Tim Persey (methamphetamine) and others, for testing positive for various banned substances.
Drug free is the way to be,
