Apparently UFC 72 wasn’t just unimpressive on paper. Last night’s UFC 72 event in Belfast, Northern Ireland could have easily been labeled one of the worst UFC cards to date. With a non sellout crowd, the event began with some exciting fights, followed with lackluster performances and topped off with a poorer performance at the main event, between Rich Franklin and Yushin Okami. I truly feel for those who paid for an event that should have been aired on SpikeTV. Last week's Ultimate Fight Night 10 deserved that PPV spot more than UFC 72 did.
Ben and my predictions were all dead on when it came with the winners, but as far as way of win, Ben was the only one who predicted the Griffin-Guida decision correctly. Maybe next time.
Anywho, here are the results for last night’s UFC 72 event:
- Rich Franklin defeats Yushin Okami via unanimous decision
- Forrest Griffin defeats Hector Ramirez via unanimous decision
- Jason MacDonald defeats Rory Singer via TKO (strikes) — Round 2, 3:18
- Tyson Griffin defeats Clay Guida via split decision
- Ed Herman defeats Scott Smith via submission (rear naked choke) — Round 2, 2:25
- Marcus Davis defeats Jason Tan via KO — Round 1, 1:15
- Eddie Sanchez def. Colin Robinson via TKO (strikes) — Round 2, 0:32
- Dustin Hazelett def. Steve Lynch via submission (Anaconda choke) — Round 1, 2:50

Thank God that Franklin won this fight. The UFC needed a clean card with a recognizable figure winning, setting up his rematch with Silva. Silva is boring enough, but throw in a figure like Okami (who is probably unknown by 75% of MMA fans), and you'd get an even bigger flop than this card.
Meh, Okami is actually better than what people think regardless of his popularity among UFC "fans." There are too many top quality fighters out there unknown to the everyday TUF/UFC fan.
